Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan + Gradual Glow

Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan + Gradual Glow - £6.99, available here

I'm about as pale as they come and while I usually embrace my skin tone, when there's a little bit of sun and I want to get my legs out, I like to use a bit of fake tan just to give me more colour and make my skin look a little bit less transparent. Over the years, I've tried many different types of fake tan from moisturisers with a gradual tanner built in to expensive mousses. My overall favourite is St Moritz, however when the sun popped out a couple of weeks ago and I decided I needed a bit of colour, I wasn't able to find any.

I spent ages staring at the fake tan aisle in Superdrug before I finally decided on the Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan + Gradual Glow. It's a wash-off product which means that if you go wrong, it doesn't matter because you can start again and you'll always end up with a good looking tan which can easily be washed away in the shower. The reason why I decided to try this is because I prefer gradual tanners - they give you a lovely golden glow without being too dark straight away and the colour is always buildable. The bonus with the Rimmel Sunshimmer is that it's an instant tan so you can see where you're putting it but it also looks good straight away, you don't have to wait around for the colour to develop!

I've used this at night just before bed, using it as a gradual tanner and have let the colour develop while I'm asleep and I've also put this on just before I've gone out for the day which has washed off to leave a lovely subtle golden glow. I'm really impressed with this product as it's so easy to apply, especially if you use a tanning mitt and it's easy to correct any mistakes you might make. The gradual tan that develops is not orange at all, in fact it looks very natural and when I've used it nobody has even noticed that it's a fake tan! It does have that obvious smell of biscuits that most other tans have but I've found that it's not as offensive as some others and once you've washed the instant tan off the smell goes anyway. I've also found that you don't need a lot of product to acheive a good colour, a little goes a long way.

At less than £4 in Superdrug at the moment, this fake tan is a complete bargain and I'll definitely be repurchasing once I've used up my current tube. Have you tried any of the Rimmel Sunshimmer products?

  1. I spent an entire summer trying to achieve a nice fake tan and I was never, ever successful. I always mess it up around the ankles. Glad to hear something works well!
